
The Alex W. Spears III Family YMCA Aquatics Department offers a variety of programs such as swim lessons, water fitness classes and pool parties. The aquatics department has an activity for all ages, from infants to adults, and all experience levels. We offer at least 3 lap lanes for lap swim when the pool is open and family swim times are also available.

Preschool
SKIPS
A parent/child class designed for children ages 6-36 months. Learn water safety, adjustment skills and fun games to help children learn.
Pike I
Beginning swim class for children ages 3-4. Children learn to be comfortable in the water and develop independent movement of the basic strokes. Learn kicking, floating, pool safety, and basic breathing skills.
Pike II
Beginning swim class for children ages 4-5. Children learn to be comfortable in the water and develop independent movement of the basic strokes. Learn kicking, floating, pool safety, and basic breathing skills.
Eel
Intermediate swim class for children ages 3-5. For children who are comfortable in the water and are able to swim 5 feet unassisted.
Ray/Starfish
Advanced skills for children ages 3-5. For children who are able to perform front and back floats and swim 15 feet unassisted.
Youth
Polliwog I
Beginner level class for children ages 6-8. Teaches basic water skills including basic swimming strokes, gliding with face in the water, floating, and kicking.
Polliwog II
Beginner level class for children ages 9-12. Teaches basic water skills including basic swimming strokes, gliding with face in the water, floating, and kicking.
Guppy
For children able to swim 15 feet without assistance. Teaches swimming on front, back, and side and taking a breath while swimming.
Minnow
For children able to swim 25 meters unassisted. Teaches front crawl with rotary breathing, backstroke, sidestroke, and beginning breaststroke.
Fish
For children able to swim 50 meters unassisted of front and backstroke. Refines breaststroke, teaches butterfly, open turns and improves other strokes.
Flying Fish
For children able to swim 50 meters of front and backstroke. Improves and refines stroke technique and working on speed improvement.
Advanced Youth/Adults
Pysces
A fitness swim class for swimmers who have completed at least fish level; Ages 9 – 16.
Adult Swim Lessons
We offer adult swim lessons on Saturday mornings from 8:15 – 9:00 a.m. Adult swim lessons are good for either a beginning or advanced swimmer looking for stroke refinement.

Water resistance offers an excellent opportunity for muscle toning and body sculpting. Water also cools the body during exercise which reduces stress on the heart and reduces the risk of injury by lessening the impact on weight-bearing joints, muscles, and bones.
