
The Spears YMCA offers lots of exciting classes for you to choose from! Along with our traditional step aerobics and weight-training classes we also offer new, innovative classes such as Zumba, TurboKick and holiday-themed workouts!

PERSONAL TRAINING
The Spears Family YMCA offers Personal Training for our members. Sessions must be utilized within 30 days / one month from purchase date and must be purchased at the front desk.

Mature F.I.T is a program designed to enhance senior individuals by following a strength-training program that will make day-to-day functions easier. This program is created for adults aged 65 to 80. 30-minute sessions will consist of participants exercising with a personal trainer using free weights, weighted balls, strength bands, Nautilus, Human Sport, and Life fitness equipment.

FitQuest
FitQuest is our feature program and is offered for all new members as well as existing members who feel they need an extra boost! FitQuest is FREE with your membership!
This service is recommended for all new exercisers, and new members that have not exercised in two or more years. It is an in depth introduction to fitness that is intended to provide guidance and support for 12 weeks.
During this twelve-week period, meetings with the Wellness Staff are scheduled to introduce a new component of fitness on a weekly basis. Personal attention and supervision is provided, with the weekly meeting ranging form 15 – 30 minutes.

ORIENTATION
This appointment is designed for a “one-on-one” individual appointment that teaches the member how to use the first part of the Life Fitness Circuit.
Most members use these 12 machines as a beginner workout before trying new equipment. This equipment is used to primarily do 1 set work-outs. Orientations may be too basic for certain fitness levels.
TAEKWONDO
Taekwondo is one of the most popular martial arts in the world. It helps develop coordination, balance, stamina, etiquette, physical fitness and flexibility.
Students will learn new forms of self-defense techniques, and increased self-confidence in accomplishing the goals set forth in the curriculum.

TEEN CERTIFICATION
Teen Certification Class is a class that will allow Teens, ages 14-15 to use the fitness center at their YMCA without having a parent or guardian present.

Nutrition Counseling with Laura Buxenbaum
A registered Dietitian and Nutritionist, Laura has extensive experience in sports nutrition, weight management and eating disorders. She earned a Master of Public Health Nutrition degree from the University of North Carolina and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Guilford College. She shares her passion for nutrition with her clients to help them make positive changes that can fit into today's busy lifestyle. Laura is available by appointment.

T’ai Chi Ch’uan is an ancient system of exercise, meditation, and self-defense
Sign up for the 6-Week session for a lower cost per week than the drop-in rate! Or pay the drop-in rate by the week.
Learn how to isolate the body and perform basic movements such as figure 8's, snake arms, hip circles and undulations. Also learn turning and traveling steps. Put these moves to use in short, fun combinations. Develop strength in core muscles, improve flexibility and most of all, have a blast!

Teen Certification is held every Thursday night from 5:00-6:30. Register at the front desk. This class is free but requires pre-registration at the registration desk.

Attention Boy Scouts!
Beth McKinney teaches the Personal Fitness merit badge and is offering this service as a merit badge counselor to any scouts who are members of the Spears YMCA. She is also willing to work with any Cub Scout pack to accomplish the fitness related achievements-- and Webelos badges too! Reach Beth here or call 387-9631.
Injury and pain assessment with Mary Kopacki
LAT, ATC, PTA at Guilford Orthopaedic. Mary provides guidance for relief from exercise related injuries, aches and pains. There is no charge for this service. Mary is available by appointment.
Mary is also at the Spears YMCA every Wednesday from 4-6 pm
