The Alex W. Spears III Family YMCA offers many different ways for you to give back to your community.  You can help by volunteering in any of our departments, helping with our We Build People Campaign and Bright Beginnings, as well as volunteering to be a sports coach.

Bright Beginnings

                                        

Bright Beginnings is a program in which we take underprivileged kids back-to-school shopping for new clothes and shoes, and provide them with a backpack full of school supplies. The children are nominated by community members, local schools and our financial assistance recipients.

Our goal for 2008 is to take 100 kids shopping over a period of 3 nights. We will be shopping at the Target on New Garden Road August 19, 20, and 21.

If you would like to help us reach our goal to give 100 kids a Bright Beginning this year by giving a monetary donation or volunteering, please contact Lynn Crawford, Membership Director or Carmen Bailey, Membership Coordinator.

We Build People Campaign

The We Build People Campaign is our annual fund raiser for our financial assistance program.  The Alex W. Spears III Family YMCA does not turn anyone away due to financial reasons.  We due this through the We Build People Campaign.  Last year alone the Alex W. Spears III Family YMCA gave over 800 scholarships totaling over $120,000. 

Our goal is to turn noone away from YMCA programs or services due to an inability to pay.  This is made possible by We Build People, the annual charitable-giving program of the YMCA of Greensboro. 

The YMCA, as well as those recipients who benefit from your assistance, would like to thank you for helping to make a difference in your neighbors’ lives.

Volunteer

 

Sports Coach

If you would be interested in volunteering as a youth sports coach, please fill out this volunteer application and return it to the Alex W. Spears III Family YMCA.  Once the application is reviewed by one of our sports' staff you will contacted for information regarding the league.  Sports that are available are baseball, basketball, soccer and flag football.  Coaching would take about 4 hours a week.  Teams would have an one hour practice and a game that usually lasts about an other hour.  Good communication skills are a must. We also perform Criminal Background Checks on all of our volunteer coaches.
